Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst (“DAAD”) Annual Grant Program
The program offers annual grants to highly qualified advanced graduate students for study and/or research at universities or institutes in Germany. Applicants must be proficient in German (proficiency requirements are less stringent for applicants in the sciences or engineering). Applicants in all fields except dentistry and medicine who are citizens of the United States or are foreign nationals who have studied at Boston University for more than one year are eligible to apply. The grant provides: a full scholarship for ten months, a monthly stipend, round-trip airfare, insurance, and shipping of personal effects.

Bridging Scholarships to Japan
These are open to U.S. citizens for semester long scholarships for study abroad in Japan. Sponsored by the Association of Japanese Teachers and corporate funding, there is no requirement for Japanese language facility. All majors are encouraged to apply.

Lambaréné Schweitzer Fellows Program*
The Lambaréné Schweitzer Fellows Programs ends four medical students each year to work for three month rotations at the Schweitzer Hospital in Gabon in the fields of surgery, internal medicine, and pediatrics. Fellows work as junior physicians, supervised by hospital medical staff. Fellows are eligible for pediatrics, medicine, or surgery rotations. Third-year medical students are eligible to apply. You must speak French.

Freeman-ASIA Program
The program offers awards for study in Asia for American undergraduates who plan to spend a summer, semester or academic year in East and Southeast Asia, assisting them with information and financial assistance. Awardees will be expected to share their experiences with their home campus to encourage study abroad by others, and to spread understanding of Asia in their home communities. Applicants’ study abroad advisors must verify financial need and endorse a student’s application, before it is submitted to IIE.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program
The program will provide up to $5,000 for U.S. citizens and nationals who are undergraduate students at two year and four year institutions to pursue overseas study, enabling students who have limited financial means to participate in study abroad program opportunities worldwide. Priority consideration for awards will be given to applicants of academic merit who receive Federal Pell Grants under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965.
Deadline: Mid-October and Mid-April, depending on time frame.
NSEP (National Security Education Program) Graduate International Fellowships
The fellowships are open to U.S. citizens for graduate work leading to the Ph.D. in area or language studies, or to add an international dimension to the curriculum in other types of programs. Awarded for study outside of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Students applying as graduating seniors must also be applying for admission to an appropriate U.S. graduate program. All recipients of NSEP awards must seek employment with a federal agency or office involved in national security affairs.

Fascell Fellowship Program*
Fellows serve at U.S. diplomatic or consular missions in Eastern Europe, Russia or the Newly Independent States (NIS). Applications should be requested from and submitted to the US Department of State. Fellowships are granted for 1 year. Housing and several other benefits will be provided. Eligibility: Must be US citizens 21 years of age, have language proficiency in one or more of the following languages: Czech, Romanian, Slovak, Hungarian, or Russian, currently enrolled in or have completed a program focused on Romanian or Slavic languages or area studies of the aforementioned countries. Glimpse (Your Stories from Aborad) — The Correspondents Program
The Glimpse Correspondents program is an opportunity for students, volunteers, teachers, and travelers who will be abroad this year to get their stories and photography published at high-profile publications and get paid for it. The program provides selected writers and photographers with a $600 stipend and one on one editorial training and support in creating a portfolio of published work.
