Personal Safety

The Public Safety Department will do everything we can to prevent campus crime, but we need your help and support to make this possible. You are very important to us so please exercise caution when walking on campus, especially at night. Listed below are some suggestions that will reduce your personal safety risk wherever you are.

a) Always walk with someone else, never alone!
b) If you must walk alone, avoid short cuts through parks, vacant lots, or other deserted places.
c) Avoid looking vulnerable. Walk at a steady pace with a self-assured stride.
d) Be aware of your surroundings & don’t daydream.
e) Avoid areas where you will have to walk near shrubbery and other places of concealment.
f) Have your key or key card in hand as you approach your residence.
g) Consider carrying a whistle on your key chain and use it to summon assistance.
