Fall Recruiting Showcase

The Fall Recruiting Showcase is aligned with the on-campus recruiting program and is an event designed to help you learn about  and make connections with key employers in a casual, low-stakes environment.  The event is intended for all interest levels, so even if you aren’t sure whether a career in business is for you, stop by to learn more from employers.

During the event, there will be a large group session in Tomson 280 where participating employers will give a brief “pitch” (presentation) about their company.  During this pitch session, representatives will touch upon company culture, what they look for in candidates, jobs and internships they have available, and other interesting details about their company.  It’s a space to explore different employers and learn about what might be a good fit.  Following the pitch event, students who are interested in learning more or making deeper connections with recruiters are invited to attend the fair event in the Tomson Atrium.  Employers will have tables and be available to chat with you one-on-one or in smaller groups.

RECRUITING SHOWCASE PREP SESSION

Thursday, September 19, 2019 | 4:30-5:00 p.m. | Viking Theater, Buntrock

  • Attend the Recruiting Showcase Prep Session to hear  an overview of the event, how to prepare, and tips for getting the most out of your time.

How to Prepare

Attend the prep session!

Review the participating employers list prior to the event and do some initial research on each company before attending.  Each employer has a limited amount of time during their presentations so the more research you can do in advance the easier it will be to identify employers with which you wish to connect.

Practice a brief introduction speech – generally no longer than 60-90 seconds.  You will have limited time with each employer so it is helpful to spend a little time organizing your thoughts in advance.  Your introduction should include your name, major, any current or recent roles you have (such as an internships, research, or key leadership positions), and what goals you have.  At the end of your introduction it is a good time to ask a question about the company, available positions, or even to understand the hiring process.

The appropriate dress for this event is business casual.

For more information, contact Bryan Shealer (shealer) or Kirsten Cahoon (cahoon) in the Piper Center.

Meet with a Career Ambassador

Career Ambassadors are specialized peer advisors who are able to help you prepare for the event, as well as other questions related to On-Campus Recruiting.

What to Bring
  • Resumes (optional).  The Showcase is not a job fair or formal resume event.  Students who are attending just to explore will be just fine without a resume.  Students who may wish to apply for opportunities might find it helpful to bring several resume copies to share with employer representatives.  You are invited to stop by the Piper Center to have a Peer Advisor review your resume or schedule an appointment in Handshake to meet with a coach.  Other resources are available on the Piper Center website as well.  Official applications will still be managed through Handshake and as directed by employers.
  • Padfolio or Notebook. You may wish to take notes and it can be a place to keep resumes.  Bring something to write with.
  • Questions.  Give some thought to questions that you plan to ask the employers.  Take notes during the pitch event and follow-up with the employers with questions or comments afterward.
