Requirements for a Major in Latin 

7 courses in Latin (only 6 courses if the student begins Latin at the 231 level or higher)

Classics 370

1 Roman history course (or 1 Classics GHS course)

Intended Learning Outcomes for a Major in Latin (updated September 2024)

Students will demonstrate: 

  1. proficiency in Latin at the advanced level.
  2. the ability to comprehend and analyze Latin texts in at least three genres.
  3. broad knowledge about the world of the ancient Romans.
  4. the ability to produce writing and research relevant to the major.

Departmental distinction is not awarded in Latin (only in Classics).
