Groomis Scholarships in Classics
Students who apply to Classics 251 (Classical Studies in Greece) or Classics 253 (Classical Studies in Italy) have the opportunity to be considered for a Groomis Scholarship in Classics. Winners are selected on the basis of merit and financial need. In your Smith Center application, there will be a question asking whether or not you are interested in being considered for a Groomis Scholarship in Classics; if your answer is yes, you will be asked to write a short essay about why you wish to study in Greece or Italy and about how you would benefit from receiving a scholarship. Preference is given to students pursuing a declared major in Classics, Greek, Latin, Ancient Studies, or Medieval Studies.
As of January, 2025, the Groomis Scholarship in Classics (jointly supported by the Groton and Loomis [= Groomis] endowments) has replaced the Loomis Scholarship in Classics and the Randall-Wilkes Scholarship in Classics. See records below.Loomis Scholarship in Classics, 2012-2023
