Requirements for a Latin Major with K-12 Teaching License
7 courses in Latin
1 course in Roman history (or 1 Classics course)
Education 349 (Teaching of Latin, K-12)
Students who begin Latin at the 231 (3rd-semester) level or higher have the option of taking 6 courses in Latin, 1 Roman history course (or 1 Classics course), and Education 349.
Students must also complete all the general requirements for St. Olaf’s K-12 Teaching Licensure Program.
Intended Learning Outcomes for a Major in Latin
Students will demonstrate:
- advanced knowledge of the Latin language.
- the ability to translate and analyze Latin literature in at least three genres.
- basic cultural knowledge about ancient Rome.
Departmental distinction is not awarded in Latin (only in Classics).
