    Requirements for a Latin Major with K-12 Teaching License 

    7 courses in Latin

    1 course in Roman history (or 1 Classics course)

    Education 349 (Teaching of Latin, K-12)

    Students who begin Latin at the 231 (3rd-semester) level or higher have the option of taking 6 courses in Latin, 1 Roman history course (or 1 Classics course), and Education 349.

    Students must also complete all the general requirements for St. Olaf’s K-12 Teaching Licensure Program.

    Intended Learning Outcomes for a Major in Latin

    Students will demonstrate: 

    1. advanced knowledge of the Latin language.
    2. the ability to translate and analyze Latin literature in at least three genres.
    3. basic cultural knowledge about ancient Rome.

    Departmental distinction is not awarded in Latin (only in Classics).
